Bosch IDP Unit 5kW Heat Strip

Q: Will your EHK-05J heat kit fit my Bosch 3-ton BRB packaged unit? The MCA and Max OCP stated for this heat kit (MCA = 65/68 and Max Fuse/Brkr = 80/80) suggests it is for the BRB-60HWD1N1-M19 (5-ton) Bosch packaged heat pump. I was looking for the same EHK-05J heat strip for my BRB-36HWD1N1-M18 (3-ton), where the single point MCA = 55A and Max Fuse/Breaker = 60A. The install manuals for both Bosch packaged units say they can use the EHK-05J heat strip, but your data is only for the 5-ton. The schematic for the EHK-05J product has two circuit breakers (in the Bosch installation manual for the heat kits), one that feeds the heating element, and the second feeds back to power the package unit, so I think the issue boils down to whether the larger breaker of the two is factory or field installed, because that breaker is the only way to tailor the same physical product to serve both Bosch package units. Can you please verify that I am correct and, if so, revise your information to say what has to be done to make the same kit fit both units? I know I am on the right track because Bosch tech support sent me a copy of the heat strip installation manual and I have spend a week working through it to correct the many errors it contained, but am sure that each heater (except the 20 kW; the 3-ton doesn't list the 20 kW) fits either packaged unit. That document has two installation sections, one for the 5-ton and the other for the 3-ton, and for each there are photos to make things

A: Yes, the EHK-05J is for use in either the 3-ton or 5-ton packaged heat pump.

Q: Thank you for your rapid and excellent response. Next, can you please tell me if the CB1 and/or CB2 circuit breakers are installed in the EKH-05J 5-kW heat strip that you are selling? If they are not factory supplied, can they be field attached, and, if so, what circuit breakers will fit? CB2 feeds the 5-kW element, so that 30A breaker could possibly be factory supplied, letting the installer add the unit variable CB1, and the same kit would work for both of the Bosch packaged units. Can you tell me the name of the actual manufacturer of the EHK-05J? I have been told that they are manufactured FOR Bosch by some third party, and I have seen some offered that have been made in China, the country where the Bosch packaged units are made. I have also been told that there are other competitors in the marketplace. One of them is Warren Technology of Hialeah, Florida, and their product is named WHE0502X without circuit breakers and WHE0502BX with the circuit breakers, whatever that means, probably just the one CB2 = 30A, but I do not know for certain.

A: I will ask our rep for help answering all these questions as they are beyond what I know about these heaters. I just have a chart that shows what heater to use with which model and basic info like voltage and breaker sizes to use.

A: This is all I was able to get from our rep:

the breakers come supplied with the heat strips, as for who makes them? I have no idea but the heaters for the package units are not the same as the split units and I have not seen an aftermarket version of them like I have for the split units.

So, this is all I have. I don't know what your customer is trying to think. I can say this, they are trying to over think it.
